One of the nation's largest restaurant companies, Advantica Restaurant Group underwent its fifth name change to Denny's in 2002 after divesting its Coco's and Carrows chains. (Subsidiary FRD Acquisition Co., parent to Coco's and Carrows, is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy.) Now whittled down to one brand, Denny's is the country's largest full-service family restaurant chain at more than 1,700 units. Advantica had sold its Hardee's, Quincy's Family Steakhouse, and El Pollo Loco chains over several years before ridding itself of Coco's and Carrows.
